Time to speak up on solar, Jan 11
Time to speak up on solar, Jan 11
Solar policy in Maine is back in play. Last year, a bill that would have protected Maine from a huge backslide on solar power was narrowly defeated. Now, we have an opportunity to move solar in the right direction.

On Thursday, January 11, at 1 pm, the Energy, Utilities, and Technology (EUT) Committee will hold a public hearing on LD 1686. LD 1686 would:
• Remove a tax on the solar power Maine people use at their own home or business
• Increase the number of people that can participate in community solar projects, and
• Require the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) to do a fact-based analysis of net metering.

What You Can Do

Contact your legislators today and ask them to do the right thing for Maine’s wildlife and habitat by supporting LD 1686.

Interested in testifying at the public hearing in support of sensible solar policy? Please let me know. It's easy! We can help you craft your remarks and could potentially even give you a ride to Augusta.

Now is the time for Maine lawmakers to work on behalf of all of us, stand up to pressure from big utilities operating out of pure self-interest, and do the right thing for all Mainers.

Maine Audubon will be at the hearing Thursday and throughout the session working for a sustainable energy future for Maine. We’d love to have you stand with us.
