Questioning Pruitt
Questioning Pruitt
EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt will be in the hot seat at two important congressional committee hearings on April 26.

U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree is already on record calling for Pruitt to resign. It is important that she ask Pruitt hardball questions — and hold his feet to the fire if he tries to dodge them.

• Scott Pruitt is wasting taxpayer dollars on lavish expenses like luxury travel and expensive office refurbishments

• At the same time, he's trying to strangle the EPA's budget, attempting to destroy environmental safeguards, and putting the interests of the fossil fuel industry ahead of the American people

• Pruitt has proven that he is unfit to carry out the EPA's mission to protect our health and environment

Some key questions we would love to see Rep. Chellie Pingree ask:

• Since the EPA's mission is to protect our health and our environment, why has Pruitt taken significantly more meetings with fossil fuel industry executives than environmental or public health groups?

• Why is Pruitt proposing to slash the EPA's budget for key programs that protect our environment, including clean air and water safeguards, flood protection, and prosecuting environmental crimes?

• Why does Pruitt refuse to address climate change, when the vast majority of scientists agree that it's the biggest environmental threat we've ever faced?

• Why did Scott Pruitt and his aides subvert the White House to hand out massive raises to key aides — and why did they do it by using funds reserved for hiring emergency experts during clean water crises?

• Why did Scott Pruitt spend thousands of taxpayer dollars on lavish expenses like first-class flights, unnecessary office furniture, and a security detail during a personal trip to Disneyland?
