Beginners Fly Fishing Day, May 18
Beginners Fly Fishing Day Saturday May 18th:

The Kennebec Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited's Annual Beginners Fly Fishing Day will be held at Evergreens Camp Ground, Rte. 201A Solon. 11 am to 3 pm or later depending on interest. This is a FREE event hosted by Kennebec Valley TU.

Chapter members will be teaching fly tying, fly casting, knot tying pertinent to fly fishing and fly fishing at the waterfront provided Kennebec River flows are favorable. Even intermediate fly fishers will enjoy the day as there is always new techniques to learn or to share.

We will also be doing insect collection in the water with D-Ring nets and kick nets with University of Maine Cooperative Extension scientist Clay Kirby.

Clay serves as the resource person for the Extension personnel, state agencies and any Maine citizen with an insect question including identification, biology and management. Clay will address insect observation techniques, what some of these insects are that are important to fly fishers and their basic biology. Of course a discussion will follow of what fly imitations to tie on your line while you are fly fishing this year in Maine after we identify the insects found in the Kennebec River.

Joe and Lorena owners of Evergreens Campground will be offering FREE lunch!

30 Miles North of Interstate 95, (Exit 133) via Route 201 North.
At blinking light in Solon turn left onto Route 201A.
Evergreens Campground is 1 mile on the left.

Helpful Tip:
When following route 201 through Skowhegan, Turn right over the bridge and then follow the loop around through the town. Be sure to pay attention to the signs and stay on 201 (not 201a).
