MEACC Annual Meeting, May 9

The Maine Association of Conservation Commissions (MEACC) will host its annual meeting Saturday, May 9, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Brunswick Public Library with guest speaker Doug Beck, Outdoor Recreational Supervisor of Recreational Trails Program for the Bureau of Parks & Public Lands at the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.

The MEACC Annual Meeting will feature a presentation by Mr. Beck on funding for municipal recreational trails. The Annual Meeting also includes the nomination of new board directors and an annual program and financial report. Refreshments will be served.

The meeting is open to the public. Cost of admission is free to MEACC members or $10 at the door. RSVPs requested by May 2 to garvan.donegan@maine.edu.

Bio for Doug Beck

Doug Beck serves as the Outdoor Recreation Supervisor in the Grants and Community Recreation program for the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands. In this capacity he manages the Land and Water Conservation Fund, the Recreational Trails Program and the Maine Conservation Corps. He came to this position in the fall of 2014 after nearly five years as the Physical Activity Coordinator with Maine Center for Disease Control where he promoted improved health via increased levels of physical activity.

Prior to Maine CDC Doug served as recreation superintendent for the City of Auburn, and as the first executive director for the Maine Recreation and Parks Association. He helped to establish the Lewiston Auburn Community Forest board, is a founding member of the Maine Outdoor Coalition and most recently promoted the creation of the Monmouth Conservation Commission.

He lives in Monmouth with his wife Jodi, has two grown children Garrison and Sabrina, and he enjoys all forms of outdoor recreation.
