Politics Trumps Science at the EPA

Trump's EPA is pushing to lower air quality standards. These standards literally mean life or death for millions of Americans. Demand that the EPA protect our health, not polluters.

Once again, Trump administration cronies are denying peer-reviewed science.

As chair of the EPA’s Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC), Tony Cox — a former consultant for the American Petroleum Institute, the Truck and Engine Manufacturers Association, the Mining Industry, and a tobacco company — is questioning if fine particulate matter air pollution, also known as soot, actually causes premature death and other health issues.

However, the science is clear that this type of pollution is very dangerous. One out of every 25 premature deaths in the United States occurs because of outdoor air pollution and that will get even worse if the Trump administration adds more soot to the air we breathe.

The EPA MUST follow facts, not politics, when making decisions that affect millions of families and individuals. Cox's proposal to lower standards puts people across the nation at risk, especially children and the elderly. This would also exacerbate massive environmental injustices, as communities of color are far more likely to live in polluted regions than their white peers.
