So far, hunters and trappers have killed 173 wolves since hunting season began on August 30th in Idaho. That is more than one wolf a day killed without a second thought. The wolf slaughter in Idaho has taken an especially sick turn this weekend with a “wolf and coyote derby." Sponsored by a “hunters’ rights” organization, the killing spree will award cash prizes for killing the most female coyotes and killing the, largest wolf. These are exactly the kinds of extermination era tactics that drove wolves to the brink in the first place.
