Baxter State Park under Threat

LD 55, “An Act To Restore Hunting Rights in the Katahdin Lake Region,” a bill in the Maine Legislature, directs the Baxter State Park Authority to allow hunting on the lands in the Park at Katahdin Lake. This bill would strip those lands of sanctuary status. LD 55 would reverse a carefully crafted agreement reached five years ago and would overturn decades of autonomy for Maine’s Baxter State Park Authority. This would result in threats to other ongoing negotiations affecting access in the area. Hearing on Feb 3, 1:30 pm, at the Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry Committee, Cross State House Office Building, Room 206, Augusta. Urge legislators to vote Ought Not to Pass on LD 55.
